The Singapore weightlifting federation recently approached us for help with one of their athletes. National weightlifter David needed to drop from an already lean 61kg to below 55kg in a few weeks. Pitmaster Ving worked together with his coach to plan a diet program that would work with his training preparation. One of the goals was to avoid having to do a water cut and for him to step on the platform fully energised. David weighed in at 54.7 on the day of his weigh in. There’s a difference between a weight cut and fat loss. When trying to achieve fat loss, the goal is to achieve long term leanness. Unlike David’s case, there really isn’t a deadline. The slower the cut, the more manageable and sustainable the process. Unless you have a deadline to hit a very specific weight - Do NOT rush into trying to lose weight too quickly. It will only result in a rebound.
